Voice

I currently work as a freelance vocalist in Tkaronto (Toronto).

I sing professionally with Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, The Theatre of Early Music, and most recently Artemis Musicians' Society, a collective of musicians brought together by their experiences as survivors of sexual assault.

Dan has participated in summer training programs at Orford Academy and Domaine Forget, collaborating with pianists in the world of art song. He has also performed in masterclasses led by notable musicians such as Carrie-Ann Matheson, Liz Upchurch, François Le Roux, Russel Braun, Lena Hellström-Färnlof, and Amy Burton.

Favourite performance experiences include the Viennese Ball of Montreal, bass soloist in Fauré's Requiem, La Compagnie Baroque-Mont-Royal, and bassist with choirs such as Seraphim, Yellow Door Choir, Montreal West Presbyterian Church, Church of St. Andrew & St. Paul, Beaconsfield United Church, and Luminos Ensemble.

An avid musical theatre performer, Dan has performed in multiple cabarets with The Guild, Savoy Society, and Victoria Playhouse. Other performance credits include: Up In Smoke (Feast Dinner Theatre), Follow the Fiddler (Victoria Playhouse), Abegweit: Soul of the Island (Charlottetown Festival Young Company), Christmas in Killarney (Kings Playhouse), Up In Smoke (Feast Dinner Theatre), and the title role in Ian the Fiddler (Victoria Playhouse), written and composed by his late grandfather, John Bevan-Baker.

Keen to explore the gamut of sounds created by the voice, Dan enjoys engaging in vocal improvisation, as most recently heard in a concert of improvised works based on music and well being, organized by his former Concordia University music therapy professor, Deborah Seabrook.

Dan also finds great fulfillment bringing his inner experiences to life through songwriting, accompanying his voice with guitar and piano.
