Hi, I’m Dan!
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist, Certified Music Therapist, Certified Sound Therapist, and founder of Dan Bevan-Baker Psychotherapy and Music Therapy. I built this group practice to ensure individuals, couples, and communities have greater access to anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and creative-based care delivered by compassionate, like-minded therapists.
My journey to becoming a therapist began while studying classical voice at McGill University. I enrolled in Intro to Music Therapy, which shone light on another way of using music that deeply resonated. Performing was (and still is!) fulfilling, but I was pulled into music therapy by its relational and supportive nature.
After my degree in music and psychology in 2015, I moved a few streets away to study music therapy at Concordia University (MA, 2018). I learned early on that I also loved the talking aspect of therapy but needed more training. This led me to study counselling psychology through Yorkville University (2022).
Along the way, I have worked with a diverse range of individuals and groups at non-profits, long-term care homes, hospitals, and schools as a music therapist. My psychotherapy and music therapy focus now is in private practice, supporting queer and trans folks, artists, and students with anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, loss and grief, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and HIV/AIDS. My approach is rooted in anti-oppressive, intersectional, and trauma-informed frameworks, blending relational, person-centred, arts-based, narrative, existential, and Internal Family Systems therapies.
I strive to create a warm, curious, and collaborative space where we can safely explore your stories, foster hope, and experiment with new ways of being. Drawing from my experience as a queer musician, I intentionally integrate creativity and community to nurture individual and collective change.
Outside of therapy I find pleasure in songwriting, being by the water (PEI is home!), and quality time with my husband and our dog.
